I Won’t Settle for a Love That Leaves Me Feeling Alone

People don't seem to want depth anymore.

Everything feels faster now. Faster conversations. Faster attachment. Faster replacements. People want distraction, instant gratification, and temporary comfort. Something to fill the silence, avoid loneliness, soothe boredom.

And maybe that works for some.

But I have realised I can't build a life around surface-level connections.

I used to think staying single meant something was wrong with me. That may be that my standards were too high. Maybe I expected too much. Maybe I should learn to accept less.

Less communication.

Less honesty.

Less effort.

Less emotional availability.

Less consistency.

But over time, I realised those things aren't luxuries.

They are foundations.

Because wanting trust isn't unrealistic.

Wanting someone who communicates isn't asking too much.

Wanting loyalty, emotional safety, honesty and intimacy isn't impossible.

Those are the things a real connection is built on.

After experiencing betrayal, disappointment or giving too much of yourself to people who couldn't hold it carefully… your definition of love changes.

You stop craving intensity.

You start craving peace.

You stop chasing excitement.

You start looking for safety.

You stop asking:

"Do they want me?"

And begin asking:

"Can I trust them with my nervous system, my heart, my softness?"

That shift changes everything.

I've survived enough betrayal to know I can't survive abandoning myself again for the wrong person.

So no, I won't settle.

Not for inconsistency disguised as mystery.

Not for breadcrumbs mistaken as effort.

Not for feeling lonely beside someone who says they care.

Because loneliness inside a relationship can feel heavier than loneliness alone.

I'd rather wait.

I'd rather protect the parts of me that took years to rebuild.

I'd rather sit with temporary solitude than force permanence with someone who cannot meet me deeply.

And despite everything…

I still believe a deep connection exists.

I still believe some people value honesty over games, peace over chaos, loyalty over convenience.

I think those people are rare.

But rare things take time to find.

That part matters.

Because protecting your heart is understandable.

Believing no one is capable of meeting you there can become another kind of prison.

I don't want fear to become my home.

I want discernment.

I want boundaries.

I want self-respect.

But I also want to remain open enough to recognise something real when it arrives.

So maybe staying single isn't giving up.

Maybe sometimes it's choosing yourself long enough that when love comes, it doesn't require you to shrink, perform or betray who you've become.

Maybe waiting isn't loneliness.

Maybe waiting is faith.

Faith that what is meant for you won't require you to abandon yourself to keep it.

And until then—

I choose peace.

I choose depth.

I choose honesty.

And I choose not to settle.

The Quiet Reset

Healing. Boundaries. Depth. Becoming.
